Most founders who reach Carla already have excellent advisers. Strategy is covered. What they rarely have is someone who knows the person carrying the company and can stay with the questions that cannot be answered inside it.

That is the work. Private, one-to-one, with a small number of founders whose decisions carry real consequence. Carla also works selectively with companies when the situation calls for work with a senior leader, selected team members, or some combination.

Carla takes in the business reality, the relationships around it, the pressure someone is under, and the patterns that emerge when the stakes rise. She helps founders see what can be difficult to see from inside the situation, distinguish what the situation requires from what fear, urgency, anger, or old patterns are pushing them toward, and respond with greater choice.

Some of what matters most is not about the company at all. A transition. A fracture in the senior team. A relationship under strain, a health question, a grief that has not had anywhere to go. These sit outside the business and change how a founder can see, choose, and lead.

Over time, a founder no longer has to explain the whole terrain when something happens. Carla knows how they think when grounded, what pressure tends to distort, which patterns repeat, and what matters beyond the company. That accumulated knowing is what lets the work move quickly and honestly when the stakes rise.

How the Work is Grounded

Carla began her career as a psychotherapist. She learned early that understanding why something is happening does not necessarily change what someone does when the pressure is real and how they respond will shape what happens next.

Over more than three decades, her work has centered on that gap. She listens for what is being said and what is harder to say, tracks what is happening across the business, relationships, and the person carrying them, and notices patterns that can be difficult to recognize from inside the situation. She names what she sees and asks questions others may not ask.

The work does not stop at insight. When a pattern keeps repeating, Carla works with the client to understand what is driving it and create enough room for a different response when it matters.

She does not fix, prescribe, or take over. She stays close to the work while leaving the deciding where it belongs, with the client.

Her ability to do this rests on more than professional training. Four decades of sustained interior work in her own life have developed her capacity to remain present when someone brings difficult material into the room without rushing toward an answer or needing the conversation to become more comfortable.

There is very little a client needs to protect Carla from. She can stay with anger, fear, grief, shame, uncertainty, failure, relationship strain, or something that has never been said out loud, without judging, managing, or forcing resolution.

Carla works with a small number of clients each year to protect the depth, confidentiality, and continuity this work requires.

Carla Royal, M.Ed., is a Certified Integral Master Coach™ with more than three decades of clinical and developmental experience. She began her career as a psychotherapist and has worked professionally in coaching since 2011. Since 2019, her private practice has focused on founders and entrepreneurs, with selective work involving senior leaders and companies.
